Context based Alerts

Principles and Different Phases :

Worked with my Professor(in School) in writing this journal paper on design paterns for intuitive interaction of context based alerts on mobile devices.
Journal Paper - An Intuitive Design

Role: Designer & Researcher
Abstract :
With increased adoption of smartphones, tablets and other easy access to information anytime anywhere there is an increased dependency of using these devices to manage everyday life. This can also result in overloading the user with too much information. Hence there is a need to understand the application of intuitive design for effective presentation of alerts and improved human interaction. This paper will present the current research landscape and affordances of mobile devices towards facilitating better user experience for intuitive interaction with a case study related to the use of mobile technology for context-based intuitive information presentation for students who are new to the college environment and how mobile technology can assist them to easily adjust to the new environment. Findings from this research inform design guidelines through the use of design patterns for intuitive interaction that can provide context-driven alerts to include enhancing user experience, optimizing functionality, and increasing adaptability of products.
Research Highlights:
-
Use of intuitive interaction principles for design for alerts and alarms improves the overall user experience of the user.
-
Heuristic evaluation study was conducted to understand the design aspects of the domain of helping students who are new to the college environment to manage their classes, school, and finance.
-
Results indicate that design pattern languages broke down the complexity of the schemata of the targeted demographic.
-
Use of design pattern languages fit multi-modal cues to the concept patterns and relationships of the user’s associated knowledge to fit within context-based scenarios.
